Marie Spoto, MSA, MBA, CPA

Partner

Marie Spoto has over twenty years of combined experience in the fields of tax, accounting, financial reporting and audit.

Marie began her career working for the Assurance and Business Advisory Services practice of the 'Big Four' international accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers. In her position, Marie managed and performed full scale audits and preparation of financial statements for a variety of clients in the financial services and non-profit sectors. She furthered her skills as the Manager of Accounting at Wheaton College. In addition to managing the accounting staff, Marie provided extensive reporting and analysis of the College’s income and expenses, including the endowment investments. She ensured compliance with both accounting principles and federal reporting requirements. Marie made the decision to pivot from the non-profit/higher education sector to pursue a career in financial reporting and analysis with the Hancock Timber Resource Group, a subsidiary of John Hancock Investment Management. In her role she managed the Client Financial Accounting Group, including staffing, training and special projects. Marie coordinated and reviewed the client financial reporting and tax return preparation process for investment partnerships and limited liability companies. She also played a key role in a series of acquisitions that effectively doubled the assets under management. In all of her roles, Marie was consulted to formally draft and publish policies and procedures as well as staff training resources.

Since 2011, Marie has been focusing on providing taxation and accounting services to individuals and small businesses. This includes tax preparation, planning, accounting and consulting services. She enjoys developing one-on-one relationships to educate her clients while providing impactful tax advice.

Marie is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the state of Massachusetts. In addition, she holds a Master of Science degree in accounting and a Master of Business Administration from the Northeastern University Graduate School of Professional Accounting. She obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance from the New England Conservatory of Music.

Marie has volunteered as Treasurer for several organizations including the Sharon Education Foundation, MOMS Club of Sharon, Sharon Sea Eagles, Sharon Middle School Parent Teacher Organization and A Faith That Does Justice.

Marie lives in Sharon, Massachusetts with her husband and two sons. She enjoys lively accounting discussions with her husband, attending her sons' sports events and running long distances. She has completed 17 marathons including 5 Boston Marathons.  


Jim Spoto, CPA

While completing his degree, a Bachelor of Science in Accounting at Bentley College, Jim was recruited to work for the ‘Big Four’ international accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers. He worked in the Assurance and Business Advisory Services practice, playing a lead role in the planning, staffing and execution of a variety of engagements including financial statement and due diligence audits and reviews of financial statements in support of acquisitions. He gained extensive experience in researching technical accounting issues and advising and teaching clients on the implementation and application of new accounting pronouncements. In addition, he advised management through his analysis of financial data utilizing key ratios and trends within respective industries.

Jim parlayed his experience into a career at a multi-billion dollar international management consulting firm. He has overseen the consolidation of the company’s worldwide offices, ensuring consistency and controls of accounting practices across more than 50 offices in 34 countries. He supervised the internal audit group, managing field audits and ensuring compliance with global standards. He has also managed the implementation of new accounting systems and provided input as a key member of global financial system rollouts. He collaborated with senior management in areas including mergers and acquisitions, tax, human resources and information technology.

Jim enjoys applying his technical research skills to tax issues and planning. He uses the experience he gained from years of acting as an advisor to management as well as mentor/teacher to staff in his efforts to educate clients and thoughtfully assess their needs.

Jim is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the state of Massachusetts. He has served in a volunteer capacity as Treasurer and Vice President of Sharon Youth Lacrosse and as the Chair of the Finance Committee at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Sharon, Massachusetts.

Jim lives in Sharon, Massachusetts with his wife and two sons. He enjoys coaching lacrosse, golfing with his sons, attending local sporting events and traveling.
